Context : increasing natural disasters
Let's face it. In recent years, companies that still doubted the existence of climate change and its impacts on their activities had a brutal awakening. Ice storms, hurricanes, drought, windstorms, and the 2021 flooding in British Columbia: the vulnerability of supply chains to natural disasters is increasing rapidly.
Some studies report that supply chain disruptions have nearly doubled globally. One of the main causes? Natural disasters and weather phenomena.
For example, the torrential rains that hit British Columbia in 2021 prove it. What were the consequences?
- The paralysis of the port of Vancouver (the largest in Canada);
- The closing of many roads (landslide, breakage, etc.);
- The closing of the railways.
This had major repercussions on supply chains.
The challenge: isolation of British Columbia
Faced with an environmental catastrophe, even if everyone knows that the situation will slowly return to normal, there are immediate needs to be addressed.
The red phone started ringing everywhere.
Our partners were worried and needed help to ease the uncertainty. Remember that all roads and rail access were cut off.
The solutions: we will deliver your cheese no matter what
At Agropur, our partners are our priority.
While some were completely isolated due to flooding, our transport teams worked hard to find solutions. They made many phone calls and found answers to deal with the situation :
- Creation of alternative delivery routes through the United States;
- Sending products by other means of transport at no additional cost.
At Agropur, we strongly believe that whatever the situation, there are always quick solutions to put in place; and everyone in our internal teams is more dedicated than the next. At Agropur, one thing is certain: we remain strong, and our commitment will not be weakened by a crisis.
